About Zenith
Founded in 1865 in Le Locle, Switzerland, Zenith is best known for its "El Primero" chronograph movements, and its thin "Elite" calibers. Zenith has received over 1500 first prizes from observatories for the precision of its timepieces. ----- With a history dating back to 1843, Zenith is one of the oldest Swiss watch makers. The company was officially founded in 1865, by Georges Favre-Jacot. By the time of his retirement in 1929, Zenith had won more awards for precision than any other company.
In 1969, the company introduced the world's first automatic chronograph movement, the El Primero. It was able to measure to a tenth of a second, an unsurpassed world record. In 1995, Zenith launched the Elite, a series of ultra-thin chronographs chosen by members of the professional horology press as best mechanical movement.
