From its beginning, Audemars Piguet has kept a detailed register, with serial numbers, of all watches it made. The authenticity of any Audemars Piguet watch can be confirmed from company records. The two Audemars Piguet masters got together in 1875, in the Swiss town of Vallee du Joux, in the heart of the Swiss Jura Mountains. Jules Audemars was a dial maker who invented stem winding and setting. Edouard Piguet cherished the role of finisher. Today, Audemars Piguet is managed by their descendents and continues to make timekeeping part of history. Audemars Piguet are makers of the "Royal Oak." This was the first luxury wrist watch made from stainless steel; named after the hollow tree trunk in which King Charles II is said to have sought refuge.
